Chapped lips are no fun, whether it’s summer or winter. My experience with brand name lip balms did not fulfill my satisfaction and only provided moisture to my lips for a certain extent in time. Try making this lip balm which helps moisturize your lips throughout the day. This lip balm only has a few ingredients, such as beeswax, coconut oil, and Shea Butter.
Beeswax
This natural wax is created by honey bees and is commonly extracted by melting the honeycombs then strained through cheesecloth. Beeswax has anti-viral, anti bacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties which fight chapped skin and bacterial infections.
Shea Butter
This thick smoky smelling butter comes from a shea tree in West Africa and is extracted from the tree’s seeds. Some benefits of this butter are the prevention dry skin and protecting the skin natural oils.
Coconut Oil
This popular oil comes from the islands of Southeast Asia and is extracted from the meat of the coconut. It is rich in anti-microbial properties, lauric acid, and medium-chain fatty acids which helps to moisturize skin.
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons of shea butter
2 tablespoons of coconut oil
2 tablespoons of beeswax
15 drops of peppermint oil
Directions:
- Melt the oils in microwave (5 to 7 seconds)
- Stir the oils together and add peppermint oil
- Store in container
- Place in the fridge to allow it to solidify
