As a mother and content creator I not only feel called to share inspiration but I also feel that it’s just as important to uplift our community in sharing strategies and knowledge to help others build a solid brand.

As 2018 gradually comes to an end. I’ve been reflecting on the goals I’ve been working towards and surprisingly I’m pretty impressed.

As you may already see my clothing line is not listed in my store yet, but one thing I can say for sure is that I’m even closer to meeting that goal now then I was last year . This year I’ve learned in order to get somewhere in life. You got to be dedicated and passionate in each goal you wish to pursue. This goal in particular has taken me on a journey I never thought I would walk on and has given me things I never knew how I could quite pursue. I’m more thankful it took me longer to get where I am now so that I could see the beauty of the struggle which is in between each stepping stone. In fact it begin to become more adventurous the further I went and I discovered so many hidden talents I didn’t even believe I had. Striving to become something other people couldn’t even imagine you becoming could make you feel alone but not lonely during the long road ahead. But…. Solitude could be depicted completely different if more people were striving for that dream they know deep down in their gut they could achieve and most importantly if  women embraced that Inner Nurturer. No matter if we are sister, mother, or best friends we know how it feel to have bright ideas and go for it without ceasing. So next year I don’t care if it’s only one person that reads my posts take the message out of it and strive for your passion, spread the message by owning your truth, and give back to those that have walked your path.

Find your Passion

So what is your passion exactly?

When I express my  passions it allows me  to become more relaxed or sometimes makes my mind wonder. So could it be cooking, dancing, speaking, or even drawing? As for me I have quite a few passions but as of now. It’s writing and of course sewing. I love writing because it allows me to tap into expressing who I really am. You know me, Mami Kelviana a mother, wife, supporter, and nurturer first; then of course Kelviana the young-spirited, positive, happy, and creative woman. As a mother you can sometimes began to get lost in who you really are while carrying all the daily responsibilities, so I began to write and somehow ended up setting the stage for a huge cause Self-Care. Which leads me to the next point.

Own your Truth, Set the Stage, and Spread the Message.

If you want to  strive for your passion then you have to be honest with yourself . (giphy) That’s something I have mainly struggled with this year, and it ended up making me and not breaking me. When I started this blog I constantly covered topics I was interested in but not really interested in. I wanted to cover topics that were way bigger than me so I had to let go of my pride, be  honest, and write about topics I wouldn’t even want my worse enemy to go through. It was like a weight lifted off of me when I talked about Self-Love which is my first article in Self Care. That was when I set my stage and started spreading the message about a topic which in this country, we know is a problem but don’t really know how to address the problem individually. So if you cook write a letter of encouragement and put it in a cake or on top of a to go plate. If you want to dance then dance to music that has a meaningful message that makes you happy. Also if you want to speak make sure you speak boldly about the truth that’s so funny. Last but not least if you want to draw, please for the inner child in me I beg of you to make sure that the moral of the cartoons or comics you draw include the golden rule.

Give back to People Who Are Less Fortunate and Have Walked a Similar Path as You

Of course it’s almost Christmas and it’s the time of giving or is it really?

In my book it’s never too early or too late to give. In fact I’ve learned the most valuable lesson in the past month or so and that is: Give with a kind heart without expecting to receive anything in return, and I guarantee you will receive something back from God in the most unimaginable way. That’s why I constantly give to others whether their homeless, a friend, family or even stranger I just  always make sure my heart is kind. Plus it makes my heart flutter just to see that person I’m giving to smile. Hopefully in the near future I’ll be able to give many of my clothes that I create to others who are less fortunate, but until then I’m just giving free advice. So no matter where you are in life constantly give. Give away free cakes or hot plates, free dance lessons, speak at free events, and give free drawing lessons. I promise all that giving will make you into a kind person.

Each time I write I imagine myself on stage making a speech to many mothers, sisters, and friends at my own auditorium.

In that auditorium is a long Hall of Fame filled with pictures of many women that have changed my perspective of life. Must I name them. Of course how rude would I be if I didn’t. The first picture would be my beautiful mother, Mama Jewel, My grandmothers, My role model since the beginning ; Mary McLeod Bethune, and let me not forget Mother Lester. Who’s Mother Lester? She’s the woman that my dad mostly mentioned when he was giving us one of those speeches on life lessons. She practically changed our lives because she gave Mama Jewel and my dad her blessing when they wanted to get married and she introduced my parents to a bottle of milk that could get my baby sister to sleep for hours. There relationship first began when he walked into her home church and she took him under her wings like he was her very own that’s the day she became Mother Lester. There was no doubt in my mind she was a virtuous woman because she cooked good food for her household and gave plenty of portions to God’s maidens. That’s how most people knew her because she would give anyone a free plate of food just to talk about God with them. That was of course the time when you knew everybody in the city. When I say everybody I mean your post man, the police officers, the people who walked and rode down the street. So starting now or next year let’s challenge ourselves, Ladies and Gents to make a difference in our community by nurturing others through giving others hope through our passion and setting a table or platform to talk about concerns to make our community better with each person at a time.

Let’s challenge ourselves to be brave just like Mother Lester did and many other iconic women and man did and watch how fast the world changes!

Peace and Love,

Mami Kelviana
