Washing dishes is probably one of the most relaxing chores I love to do. Being a mother to a toddler that loves food, just as much as I do, our kitchen is a happy place. Having clean kitchen and dishes is one less way to be sure my family don’t pass on germs or sickness to each other.. Do brand name dish detergents provide the same promise to your family? Research has proven that many dish detergents are filled with many chemicals that causes cancer, asthma, skin irritation, and many more health problems. Eliminate the chemicals you use to wash your dishes by making your own degreasing dish detergent. This detergent works just as well or maybe even better than the leading brands. The ingredients that is used in this D.I.Y is Castile soap, white vinegar, washing soda, tea tree essential oil, and African black soap.
Castile Soap
This soap was originally made in Egypt and Syria, and is primarily made with olive oil. Castile soap is commonly used as a household cleaner which helps with cleaning the dishes to mopping the floor. It’s an ideal household cleaner for those with sensitive skin and allergies.
White Vinegar
This aggressive vinegar is made from fermented grains which then turns into acetic acid and then diluted with water. As a cleaner, white vinegar is great to use as a disinfectant, deodorizer, and with cutting grease. This vinegar has enough acetic acid to kill salmonella, e-coli, and many more types of bacteria, which makes this DIY out to be a great surface cleaner.
Washing Soda
If you’re not familiar using washing soda as a cleaner in your home, then you might be familiar with seeing it on your periodic table which is also known as is sodium carbonate. This natural component is found in the mineral deposits of seasonal lakes, and is commonly found in the ashes of seaweed. This washing soda is not only great for removing stains out of your clothes, but also does some good as a all purpose cleaner.
Tea Tree Essential Oil
This popular tea tree oil is extracted from the leaves of a small tree in Australia. This oil is worthy of being bragged up on because of the wonderful properties such as antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antiviral, balsamic, expectorant, fungicide, insecticide, and stimulant properties. There is a long list of benefits tea tree oil, but as for the benefits of household cleaning, this oil can make a great disinfectant all purpose cleaner to deodorizing your laundry.
African Black Soap
This black soap is generally made in Africa and is filled with roasted and drive plantain, cocoa pods, palm tree leaves, and shade tree bark which is combined with the oils of coconut, shea butter, and palm. This soap will be generally used as a thickener for the detergent.
1 1/2 cup of hot water
1/2 cup liquid castile soap (I usually use Dr. Bronner’s baby mild liquid soap, but feel free to use any scent just be sure to adjust/omit essential oils accordingly. You may want to use a variety that is already scented for a more frugal option)
1 tablespoon of white vinegar
1 tablespoon of Arm & Hammer’s Super Washing Soda (used to thicken the soap)
1/8 teaspoon of tea tree oil(optional) 1 tablespoon of shredded African Black Soap
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl and pour in boiling hot water
- Allow mixture to cool while stirring occasionally
- Once mixture has cooled down pour it into any dispensing bottle
Comment below and let me know how your dish detergent has help cut grease on your dishes.
